Building words is an exciting and empowering experience for young children (and frogs) who have mastered individual letters and their sounds. When young Tad wants to nominate his Dad for a "Best Dad" contest he asks his brother Leap and sister Lily for some help filling out the application. The three young frogs go see Professor Quigley at their Father's Talking Word Factory for a little instruction and get to watch the "Sticky-ick-o-rama" and the "Word Whammer" machines at work. Tad quickly discovers that vowels act as the glue that sticks letters together and then learns to combine individual letter sounds to make three-letter words, use common ending sounds to create rhyming words, and blend letter sounds to make even longer rhyming words. Phonemic awareness, vocabulary building, and rhyming are entertaining and fun thanks to familiar Leap Pad characters, colorful animation, and short songs. An interactive word game challenges young viewers to fill in the missing first letter in a variety of three-letter words. I haven't found a Leap Frog video that I don't like yet. The catchy tunes, repetition, and rhyming really help my son learn. And the videos are not annoying to me as a parent. The run time is nice, not too long. I think this video has helped my 4yo son decode words- sound them out and separate the beginning sound from the rime. This is a great video to have kids watch after they have mastered their letter sounds.

My 3 year old daughter LOVES this video! She requests it all the time and in fact we have to limit the time she watches it. It's a great addition to the series of videos.

I bought this DVD for my daughter (22 months old). We are watching the first part right now - the letters factory, and she loves it. I am sure she will love this DVD as well. She likes the characters, and the song.

After the Letter Factory, this is the best movie for beginning readers! It teaches kids to sound out three letter words, rhyme, and combine sounds. My 4 year old son is reading signs as we drive around town because this movie taught him to sound out words. I absolutely love it and recommend it to anyone who wants to help their kids read!

I don't often suggest that a video can actually be helpful in the education of children - most seem to do more harm than good. This video, however, has actually helped our homeschooler quite a bit. Phonics was quite boring to him, until he saw how these letters created words. This video, through it's exciting visual explanation of the creation of words, helped our son get excitd about his lessons. And yes... he has actually learned quite a bit from watching Tad on TV. He is naturally building a bridge between this video and his lessons so that concepts are reinforced again and again.
