A Voice of Remarkable Power, Clarity and Passion... TREMENDOUS	Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
I am new to the Idina Menzel "fan club." Wish I had discovered her long ago. This CD has so much power and passion to it, so much going for it, it's really hard to know where to begin describing it. As if Ms. Menzel's incredible voice weren't reason enough to leap for this CD, the musical selections contained herein are simply put: TREASURE. And, with the exception of "Don't Let Me Down," all the selections are originals authored or co-authored by Idina and several collaborators (primarly Glen Ballard). If you are a personality type who leans toward a jaded, dark, and cynical view of life (one who actually LIKES punk and street rap!), this probably isn't the album for you. (On the other hand, maybe this is EXACTLY what you need. Hmm.) For those like me, however, who view life as a (yes) difficult but worthy endeavor, one full of much struggle and pain, but also one full of countless examples of the heroic and miraculous, this album may affect you the way it has me. There are several songs here which make for suitable "anthems" for life. For my tastes, there is simply nothing here not to love. BEWARE: The highly melodic and lyrical nature of some of these songs can really get into your head (a good thing from where I sit)! That there still is very much a market for highly melodic music delivered with great fire and passion we were recently reminded of by Susan Boyle's meteoric rise to stardom. (Note: "I Stand" is itself a very sharp departure in style and content from Idina's decade earlier "Still I Can't Be Still." I, personally, much prefer this CD. You may not.) Truly, the human voice is the "ultimate musical instrument." I find Idina Menzel's voice to be, in many ways, my favorite female voice. (And I've listened to hundreds of female voices in the jazz and symphonic idioms as well as pop -- recorded and live -- over five decades.) Some may find the "edge" in Idina's voice annoying. I find it to be the source for a prime portion of her appeal. She can rip into a piece of music as if with a chain saw... and, in the process, infuse a song with so much emotion, passion and intensity as to leave me but a smouldering pile of emotional rubble. That's powerful stuff. Her intonation is impeccable. Her clarity and diction faultless. You can actually hear and understand each and every single word she sings. She can gently caress a song or explode into it. She doesn't slide into any note or attack. Instead, it's almost as if she already exists INSIDE each note before it is ever sung. This is a woman of immense talent and astounding power and passion. My recommendation? Buy this CD!

I watched Idina singing in the TV show Performaces and I must say that I fell in love with her angelic voice, so I wanted to have her musical work. I must say that her lyrics and her voice elevates you to a higher plane. Love it!

Picked this CD up last week after seeing Wicked for the first time. Her voice sends chills up my spine. So calming, soothing and powerful. I recommend this CD to anyone who needs to be inspired. She is a shining light. Buy the CD. It is incredible.

For the most part I love this CD. Idina has a beautiful and unique voice I believe lends itself quite well to live theater. I just wish her choice of songs were more up-beat. Many of them are about personal relationship failures or self failure.
