Arguably the junkiest and most entertaining reality TV series to date, The Girls Next Door's sensationalism capitalizes on the public's desire to understand what really goes on inside the Playboy Mansion. Starring Hugh Hefner's three main girlfriends as themselves (Kendra Wilkinson, Bridget Marquardt, and "first girl" Holly Madison), the three women, over the course of 15 episodes, describe their daily lives, their feelings for Hef, and the life choices that have helped them to make their dreams come true. Glimpses into Hef's personal affairs, and even his living quarters, like his cluttered but regal office and his gigantic bed, surely satisfy our need to gawk at celebrity. But as episodes delve deeper into this family's unique lifestyle, showing the competitive stress induced by Hugh's ex Barbi Benton's arrival in "Fight Night," or in the mad rush for lingerie preceding the infamous annual summer party, in "Midsummer Night's Dream," the viewer realizes that looking like a Playboy model is a full-time job. Episodes like "Just Shoot Me" fascinate by showing how Playboy photo shoots unfold, while "Grape Expectations," about Bridget's road trip to her hometown, Lodi, give the girls a down-to-earth patina. | 3 Pampered, Selfish Airheads |

This show is mostly interesting for the insights it provides into life at the Playboy Mansion. The three women, Kendra, Holly and Bridget, are whiny, pampered, and self-centered. All are likely under 25, but act as though they are entitled to the doting attention and "step and fetch it" attitude ascribed to them by Hef (their Sugar Daddy) and his vast staff of cooks, cleaners and waiters at the mansion. Particularly telling is the reaction of the three girl-women to a trip to the mansion by Barbi Benton, Hef's girlfriend from 40 years ago! Ms. Benton has more class in her little finger than the three airheads combined. The women pout, make catty comments, and look daggers at Ms. Benton as she talks to Hef at a "fight night." It was hilarious to see their jealousy, even though Ms. Benton must be 60 years old.
The show has moments of humor and charm, but watching these three call Hef "honey" and him reciprocate is almost stomach turning. If he was any other 83 year old man wearing pajamas - and not Daddy Moneybags - these women would be nowhere near him.
The huge "tension," such as it is in the first season is that Hefner has not allowed any of them to be photographed nude for the magazine. Finally, by Episode 6, he gives in to their constant complaints about this "slight" to their all too fragile egos. But for how long will even this make them happy?

If you're contemplating purchasing this DVD, you've probably seen the show. And if you've seen the show, you know what you're buying. It's Holly, Bridget and Kendra on their adventures around the Playboy Mansion, how can you go wrong?
Okay, I admit that prior to seeing this show, I thought Hef was a pig and the girls had to be low on self-esteem. After I started watching the show, I got to know these people as *people.* The women are smart, talented and entertaining, and happen to be beautiful. Although the relationship they have with Hef isn't something for me, I see that they all truly love each other in their own way.
I enjoy watching the episodes with their commentary on; it's a fresh way to watch an episode you've already seen. Just watching them makes me smile.
I wish the series could have lasted forever. *sigh*

Love the series! DVD condition brand new. Despite the boyfriend's poo-poo'ing, I enjoy the girls' intellectual-light antics after a long day in the office.

this show is really bad for kids because 1 on the show the girls breasts and vaginas are covered but on the show they are uncensored and shows segestive content even thouth there is no sex involved there is lots of nudity and this is the equivilence of of porn-o so all parents out there if you have a child that wants this and they are not over 16 they will be wanting to have sex with ever girl in the world but for adults this is a really hot show that will get your heart pounding and will make it so you dont need viagra
