| A classic piece of gaming history |

When I was growing up I didn't have an NES. I went straight from an Atari 7800 to the Tandy PC (DOS 3.1) and didn't look back until recently. Having seen a bunch of the classic games I finally decided to give the NES a try. I ordered the console with some games that were critically acclaimed, and checked it out.
I was surprised to find that the console connects to the cable input, like the Atari of my childhood. Having seen nothing but RCA cables in consoles since, it was interesting to see again. The games come on very large cartridges, as big as my hand outstretched if not slightly larger. Sometimes the games wouldn't work, the picture wouldn't come in right, so I'd have to work at it. It turns out that the console has springs that make it easier to remove/insert the game, but they get worn after a while. So sometimes I have to shove the cartridge a bit harder to get the game to play than I would if the console were new.
The controllers are simple, just a rectangle with 2 main buttons, 2 menu buttons, and a D-pad. It's just a rectangle too. Nothing like the ergonomic controllers we see today. But to be honest, it feels just as comfortable as a modern controller, and I like it.
The games are rendered in 8-bit, both in video and audio. That doesn't stop the games from being great, though. I am aware that there is a huge library of games that I haven't played, good and bad, but the three I tried were Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Brothers, and Contra. I gotta say I love them all in a different way, but I'm most partial to Contra. It's one of the hardest games I ever played (30-life code notwithstanding) but satisfying.
Overall, if you haven't had the chance to play an NES, I'd definitely check it out. It's not a perfect console and none of the features of a modern console are present, but if you call yourself a gamer you have to know more about the NES.

I received my system with no power cords or AV cords - which was not mentioned. So after spending another 10 dollars for an AC Adapater just to try it out, we come to find out that it doesn't even work. We have tried multiple games, and still nothing. We are going to have to spend another 15 dollars for a part to fix it.

I must say I truly enjoy this system. I was 8 years old when I first got one back in the day and I loved it from day 1 playing Mario Brothers and Duckhunt, I still think the Nes zapper cannot be beat. The amount of classic game on this system is unparalleled. Contra, Megaman, Castlevainia, Excite bike, Punch out, Mario, donky kong they all stemed from this excellent system. I play NES threw emulation these days and still love the graphics and sound as much as I did as a child. Great prices for this system here on Amazon I may buy a new one.

I have been so pleased with the service I received from Anthony Phillips. I ordered a restored NES game console for my daughter-in-law as a birthday gift. When it arrived the picture quality was not what we had expected. When I contacted Anthony Phillips by email he responded within 24 hours with possible solutions. When they did not work we returned the console and received another one within 5 days and this one works perfectly.

This console saved video games,in North America at least. It is a fantastic console,with a fantastic library.
Though,some consoles may not work correctly,since this came out 24 years ago. They may need fixing.
Still,it's a great buy,for anyone who likes video games.
