Audio CD Publisher: Island One need hear only the first notes of this collection--the Edge's ringing guitar notes ushering in "Pride (In the Name of Love)"-to be taken back to 1984: Ronald Reagan and Maggie Thatcher rule the Western world, the L.A. Olympics is the top sports story, and Ms. Pac-Man reigns at arcades. In rock & roll, there's U2 growing in stature with each new title. Even doubters of the Irish lads have to concede that together they formed the one '80s band with the skill and sense of scale to take over the airwaves and concert stages in a decade of diminished expectations. This 15-song '80s best-of assortment (stick around for the hidden track) spans the decade, reaching back to 1980's "I Will Follow," when Bono and company were peach-fuzzy and earnest as choirboys, and tracking their path through their most glaring misstep, 1988's overblown Rattle and Hum. --Steven Stolder

I am late to U2 fandom. And even now I really only like the 1980's U2, but if you like U2 from the 1980's this is the CD for you. All the songs from Rattle & Hum and a few I had never heard before. The best of U2 all on one CD.

U2 have been around for over thirty years, and have had a wide variety of accessible music to prove that they're not a repetitive or bland group of guys that chunk out whatever will be eaten up by corporate radio or teenyboppers (though the inevitable may happen, anyway). They have modified their sound in most of their subsequent albums and have had quite a lot of unexpected experimentation in their work, given how popular they seem to be (c'mon, you can not tell me that "War" and "Achtung Baby" sound the same). Their newer stuff (Pop, All That You Can't Leave Behind, How to Dismantle) is no match for their earlier work (Boy, October, War, The Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby), but they're honestly talented, unlike many of those wannabe, depressing emo guys in modern "rock", and Bono's always been one of my favorite vocalists. The guy is actually a (dare I say) intelligent lyricist (e.g. "New Year's Day", "Where The Streets Have No Name", "With Or Without You", "One").
Quite simply, they've matured, every band has, and are still the biggest band in the world. NO band that's been around for over thirty years could EVER remain repetitive with these guys' popularity.
I think U2 is actually underrated, despite their ridiculous popularity..and Bono's showmanship/political agenda, which a lot of their haters tend to use to push their opinions, when his personal life has absolutely nothing to do with the music, except for influencing his creativity. They'll always be one of my favorite groups of musicians.
So uh..where the hell is the following on this compilation?
Out Of Control (U2'S FIRST SINGLE!)
A Day Without Me
Gloria
I Threw A Brick Through A Window
Fire
Surrender
Seconds
Two Hearts Beat As One
Wire
Bullet The Blue Sky
C'mon, these are the tunes that MADE U2 (along with what's already on here) in their glory days, and whoever made this compilation is wrong for excluding these gems. Otherwise, it's certainly recommended from this U2 fan. If you're a beginner, I'd throw this on, along with the "War", "Joshua Tree", and "Achtung Baby" albums.
If you don't like the band afterwards, fine, but at least you've heard what I consider to be the best material the band has to offer at this point in time. Enjoy the music!

Who the hell is the kid on half of their lame album covers. Bono is a retard, U2 sucks, and the songs on this album proves it and shows how "rock" they are.

The best music from one of the best bands of the 80's and 90's. If you own all their other albums then there isn't much for you here but if you are new to the band then this is a god place to start appreciating them.

Who really likes U2? I think that they are really bad, and their vocalist Bono sings like he had been drinking alcohol. Every song on this disgraceful "Baddest Hits" compilation sucks. Don't purchase any CD from AC/DC, U2, The Doors, Slayer, Megadeth, Queen, and the Stones. For good CDs, get CDs by such artists like Miles Davis, Metallica(except K'EA), Jimi Hendrix, and Dire Straits. They will rock your socks out than any of the bands above.
