| Great guide for the inexperienced |

This book is ideal for those with little or no experience in this area. Before reading this, my partner and I each had a little but not enough to be fully comfortable or adept at anal play. After reading this and using some of the concepts contained in the book, we both find it much more enjoyable and satisfying. I can definitely recommend it for any gay couples looking for some advice on the subject. At the same time, much of the advice in the book is generic enough for both male/female and male/male couples interested in anal sex; in fact, the few illustrations included feature both types of couples. There are no photos or erotic stories, so don't expect pornography here; what you will find is very useful information written in a "straightforward" fashion.
The book is well organized with something for everyone. The chapter on technique was the most helpful with tips on preparation, which is especially important for those who are inexperienced. It also has a section on positions with a description and illustration for each. For those looking to experiment on their own or as a precursor, there's a chapter on toys and one on self-exploration. The general chapters on anatomy, hygiene, and health provide good answers to questions some might have. Chapters on lube and communication contain good information for those starting out too. Finally, there are chapters on specific interests - analingus, fisting, some recreational drugs, and "extreme play" (such as water sports and the like).
While most of this information is likely available elsewhere if you go searching for it, I find this book to be a great resource that brings it all together. Primarily useful for those new to anal play, you probably won't pick it up much after you've become more experienced; however, you will be glad to have it when first getting that experience.

I'm an oral sex man myself, both giving and receiving, but I aim to please and, therefore, try to be ready for whatever form of lovemaking that my partners wish to indulge in.
"The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Men" is an excellent exploration of this controversial brand of sex, highly recommended for those who have yet to take the plunge, as either receiver or giver. Those who are already old hands at anal sex should find much to revel in, too.

Overall, I thought the book was well written, descriptive and to the point. I think it did the job it was intended to do: give a broad general introduction to anal sex. I'll agree that the illustrations were lacking, although, I wonder if they weren't intentionally campy. If you're more expereinced or lookig for something in more detail, then go elsewhere, otherwise, I recommend checking this out. I would have loved to have had a copy growing up in a small, sexually repressed New Jersey town (Haddonfield). A lot of the stuff described in the book ... I had to discover on our own and I think that played a big part of our relationship. Regardless, it's worth the read. Some of the stuff may surprise even the "very knowlegdeable."

Bought this book, and I must say the information contained herein is very well written (with a nice slice of comedy thrown in as well) I'd reccommed it to anyone new to anal sex.

The book title mentions ULTIMATE...the other reviews are extremely positive. I guess I just don't get it. I'm 40 years old and I have done alot of reading over the years. This book is a good compilation of information, but it's not like this information hasn't been around for years. I hope no one waited too long for this book...and the illustrations are a joke and a huge disappointment.
