This detailed tell-all of the demise of the former top pro wrestling company World Championship Wrestling explores the colorful personalities and flawed business decisions behind how WCW went from being the highest-rated show on cable television in 1997 to a laughable series that lost 95 percent of its paying audience by 2001. Behind-the-scenes exclusive interviews, rare photographs, and probing questions illustrate with humor and candor how greed, egotism, and bad business shattered the thriving enterprise. Wrestling fans will devour the true story of this fallen empire, which in its heyday spawned superstars such as Sting, Bill Goldberg, and the New World Order.

I did enjoy this book for the plethora of information it had. From the rise and fall of WCW from 1988-2003 it listed all major story lines, ratings and attendance figures. Even though I had watched for many years I had forgotten many of the good and terrible bits. While the author did do a lot of research, none of the sources of information come from any of the major players during the time such as Hogan, Sting, Nash or Flair. Though author does cite interviews from Bischoff, Taylor, Hart, Heenan and Goldberg. The only problem I have is how nasty the author seems to get during the fall of WCW. Maybe he was a hige fan and disappointed by the failing of the organization. But during the second half of the book the author just rips the organization over and over as doing nothing right. Certainly they made a ton of mistakes, but there was still some entertaining segments. But aside from the second half coming off a little angry, I really enjoyed the book.

Books on wrestling ever written. I recommend this to any fan, but mostly to any indy wrestler. This book is a learning tool on what works and what doesn't. This is more than likely happening right now in TNA Wrestling. This book is chalk full of info and facts. A great book I must have read this book about 10 times the 1st year I had it because it was in my bathroom. I have given away this book to a few people its that good.

This is a very solid wrestling book and to me tells the tale that was WCW. It is a very honest book and it does not play favorites either way. It is really interesting and you will realize how close WCW was to closing out the WWE for good. The author who wrote this book did a great job in obtaining information on what the backstage locker rooms were like and how the wrestlers felt. One thing I find interesting in his book is he gives the weekly rating wars between WWE and WCW. Early on WCW was not even on the same level as WWE and in fact for a while they lost a total of 6 million dollars by not booking bad wrestling but making movies that would tank at the box office. Finally in the mid 90's the war began between WWE and WCW. This was an ugly war and rest assure if Vince McMahon had a chance to get his hands on Eric Bishoff then he would have. Eric would go on before the show of WCW and give away Raws results because raw was being taped. This made Raws ratings tank and WCW was at the top. I'll let you read the rest in this book but you will find out the war at times would have been a fight physically if it could have been. Ultimately the thing that made WCW become so famous in the beginning would ruin it in the end and you will see that in this book. I strongly recommend if you are a fan of wrestling to pick up this book. It is very well put together and worth your time.

WCW was a organization that had a share of it's good times and bad times. "The Death of WCW" covers all that. It tells the story of a regional prmotion in the 80's, to becoming a powerhouse in the 90's, to becoming a non-watcher by the new millenium. It tracks the highs & lows of an organization that outlasted the WWE. I guarantee you, you want to read a classic!
