This book is liberating. It explains in a fictional story format, why some of us feel the way we do about organized religion, without attacking the institutions that many of us hold dear. Our continual abject lack of fullfilment, the need to control brothers and sisters in the Lord, the need to support the institution, these are all things that I did, all the while thinking true satisfaction and fulfillment were just around the corner.
The story told shows a light into the true reasons for our faith rather than attacking the reasoning behind what we do. It points the way to Jesus and our relationship with Him as the primary subject of our lives.
I couldn't put it down. The surprise was that I saw what I was really trying to do as a member of the administration and not what I thought I was doing.

There is a an on ongoing surge of Christians aching to be in Christ's will and leave 'man' out of it as far as direction. We need to be relying on the Holy Spirit to take us where He wants us to be. This book will enlighten and delight you to take a breath of fresh Jesus, the way He always intended your life to be.

Do you want to be forever ruined for the ordinary? Are you sick and tired of playing church? Do you want more from your relationship with your bride groom Yeshua? If you answered yes to any or all of the questions then this book is just for you. But if not fair warning you will have a total destruction of your thoughts and ideas when it comes to the current organized church. Like the book "Pagan Christianity" from George Barna and Frank Viola, "So You Don't Want To Go To Church Anymore" will mess with your church theology. Again fair warning be prepared to have your old ways of thinking of church totally dismantled. Let's put it this way my wife and I are certainly not doing the Christian /Church life with a "business as usual" mentality any longer. Praise the Lord we have been set free from that bondage!!!!

| Who knew it was a novel? |

To my surprise, this turned out to be a novel, albeit an inspirational novel. The lead character, Jake, is taken through a series of steps starting with a position in an "institutional" church, by a man he knows only as John. Jake has no address, phone number, or email for John; John just appears in Jake's life from time to time and takes on a role as counselor and guide.
The counsel John gives makes a lot of sense, but it gives up altogether on the organization of the church. The book's definition of the church is probably closer to the original thought than what we are doing today, but it doesn't speak of how to lead the people in the "insititutional" church toward a better definition, It only speaks to a personal transition.
Some of John's counsel began to smack of a disguised sermon to me, which I saw as bordering on a violation of the principle of a novel. But I liked his counsel for the most part, so I liked te book.
This is one of two books published by Windblown Media. The publisher was established for the other book< "The Shack." If you liked this one, you should definitely read "The Shack." You might also enjoy my non-fiction work, "A Call to Arms: Out of the Pews and Into the Streets."

Many of the reviews here tell you about the book and I won't rehash that, but all I can say if you are in that place where you aren't sure of what you see around you in the church this is a great book. This is another one of those books that you just can't put down after you start reading it. Wayne Jacobsen and Jake Colson have to have experienced a lot of what is in this book to have written they way they have. I have been a part of "the church" in America since I was a kid. I have been a children's pastor, bus pastor, associate pastor, and started 2 churches (one grew to over 200) and the other is a house church. The path in the book with the fictional character of Jake and John just seem so familiar. It was almost surreal. I am now 55 years old and the one thing I can tell you after years of ministry and which is reflected in this book is Jesus loves us much more than many of us ever imagined. Grab hold of the love that our God has for us and you will find your life much more at peace than you could have ever imagined, and if you aren't sure of that love this book is a great place to work on that.
