  • Weddings have the strangest effect on people. How else to explain the fact that Sissy Mae Smith woke up in Mitch Shaw's bed the morning after her brother Bobby Ray tied the knot? Or that gunmen are trying to kill Mitch, and Sissy Mae now has to escort a bleeding, stubborn, yet still incredibly sexy lion shifter to her Tennessee Pack's turf to keep him safe? It doesn't help that Mitch's appraising gaze makes her feel like the most desirable creature on earth, or that the ultimate stray cat is suddenly acting all kinds of possessive...Mitch is an undercover cop who's about to testify against some dangerous ex-associates. Even more worrisome, he's harbouring hot, X-rated fantasies about the fast - talking little canine - and he has to deal with every male in Sissy Mae's Pack sniffing around her in a way that makes his hackles rise. Mitch has his pride, and he intends to show Sissy Mae that when a lion sets out to make you his mate, the only thing to do is purr, roll over, and enjoy one hell of a ride...

    Good addition to the series...
Customer Rating: 4 out of 5
I enjoyed this addition to the series - the plot and pacing were great, as was the tension between the hero and heroine. The author did a good job with characterization, making each couple/plot unique from others in previous books. It's also great to be able to continue following characters/couples featured in previous books. Looking forward to reading the next one.

    Laurenston series
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
One of the best new series I have read
in years. I hope there many more to come.

    Not for me
Customer Rating: 1 out of 5
Good points: very funny at times.

Bad points: I don't think I have ever gone to the slight effort of writing a negative review about a book until now. The author obviously is continuing a story from other books but made no effort to make this tale stand alone. New readers are likely to be confused for several chapters.

Yes, the book is occasionally funny. Much of the humor is rude and crude, based largely upon people acting badly. The heroine is a foul-mouthed, uncouth bully, the hero is a lazy and smug parasite. So unappealing I couldn't finish the book. Don't waste your money unless you like that genre.

    Excellant Early Beach Read
Customer Rating: 3 out of 5
This is a very funny, light-hearted story of two shifters: the male a goofy lion who also happens to be an ex-undercover cop who is trying to testify as the star witness against a mobster, and the the female a well traveled but still Southern hick at heart alpha wolf. The pair have been buddies for a while but after Sissy's brothers wedding when an assassin tries to kill Mitch and nearly succeeds she spirits him away to deep backwoods Tennessee to heal and hide.

Once in the country the two are forced to realize that maybe their friendship has grown closer than they realized and is ready to take to the next level...as long as there are boundaries. But with a very large cast of friends and family all meddling in their lives their boundaries are bashed down till they can admit their love. Very entertaining but too light in plot to be considered a deep read. And with so many characters the average reader can feel a bit lost that they haven't read the rest of what is obviously a series. I know I did.

    Great Read
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
I really love ALL Shelly Laurenston books, I just wish she would write more!
If you are looking for strong, intelligent, funny heroines and sexy, powerful alpha men, this is for you. It can be read alone, and I did, but after doing so, I really wanted to get the other books too: The Mane Event (book 1)- The Beast in Him (book 2) and I was not disappointed.
Sissi is a wolf (alpha) shapeshifter who is determined to protect her friend Mitch, a lion shapeshifter, from assassins looking to collect a bounty that has been placed on his head. Along the way they discover a very strong attraction for each other and are not going to just stay just friends for much longer!
