Paperback Publisher: iUniverse, Inc. Alex Palini believes that his one chance at love has already come and gone after the unexpected death of his life partner three years earlier. At the age of thirty-five, he is dating twenty-two-year-old Stephen Clark—known secretly to Alex and his friends as Disposable Boy—just to hear someone breathe next to him at night. After all, his chance at happiness is gone … isn’t it? When Alex meets his new neighbor Rick Monette, he realizes how easy it would be to fall in love again—until Rick reveals a secret that makes Alex’s heart more vulnerable and forces him to face the possibility of grieving again. Through Rick’s companionship and the support of Alex’s friends, Alex is about to discover if a second chance can really lead to a happy ending.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is wonderful how the characters develop from seemingly shallow people to characters who matured and found love. Love can be frightening. Especially when there are complications. Take a chance, you never know...you never know what you might find out about yourself.

On this interesting novel from Chris Amisano. An Imperfect Arrangement finds Alex Palini pretending to live after the death of life partner. When Alex gets a handsome new neighborhood, it's only then that he is able to remember what living is all about. Amisano has a great story to tell, and although his fiction writing skills could use a little more polishing, he still finds a way to make An Imperfect Arrangement an almost perfect read. Credit to Amisano for creating such an interesting cast of characters.

Alex Palini's lover of three years died unrepentantly and he believed that that had been his one chance at love. He began dating Stephen Clark, a young man 13 years younger then him but he did not feel love for him, or so he thought. He and his friends referred to him as "disposable boy" and Alex thought it was great just to have someone sleep next to him because he has no more chances for happiness.
Then Rick Monette moved in next door to Alex and he realized that he could fall in love again until one day Rick told him a secret that made Alex all the more vulnerable and sets him up for the possibility of grieving once again.
Since his partner's death, Alex threw himself into his work and the gym and just sex without feeling with Stephen. When Rick comes along, things begin to change when both men realize that it is not only physical attraction they share with each other. However, Rick is just getting over a break-up and neither guy is ready to rush into something even though they both know where the relationship is going.
Amisano gives us real characters in Alex and Rick set against the background of a love story. The plot is quickly paced and the book holds the reader from the first sentence. The novel is short and has some flaws (printing errors) but it is so well written that it is easy to ignore its faults. It is more that just a gay love story as it takes us through love, relationship, loss, fear, and recovery and shows how love is possible even when it is thought that a person feels that it is not.

This is actually a really good book. It captures your attention at the very begining and keeps it going all the way through. The Character has a good head on his shoulders and is easy to relate to when reading the book. You will find it hard not to get wrapped up in his problems, and successes!
