This classic hardly needs a review from me as to its merits; what's really needed is a renewed interest in reading this important work. Today's citizens could all benefit from gaining an acquaintance with the people and ideas that helped forge a new - and different - nation. For that reason, this little tome is highly recommended.

Thomas Paine wrote of the significance of the beliefs and attitudes of the his time period. It is an interesting book for anyone and a must read for historians.

"a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defence of custom. But tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason." - Thomas Paine, in "Common Sense"
In my opinion, the greatest quote of the American Revolution and one of the greatest quotes of all time.

I would say that Thomas Paine is one of the greatest political author for any time. His writings need to be required reading & understanding in our schools today if our nation is to keep its freeedoms for individuals & not be swallowed up by big government & having the government let us know what we are allowed to do. It is supposed to be the other way around. The citizens should be the ones letting the government know what it is allowed to do.
Thomas Paine was a revolutionary man. His ideas were revolutionary. To find individual freedoms such as ours, such as Thomas Paine was advocating, you would need to go back to ancient Greece. Now the flame of freedom was starting to burn & Thomas Paine's writings were one of the matches.
Like I said earlier, his writings need to be required reading & required understanding if our country is to remain free, if the individual is to remain free. If you want to learn how to be a citizen, if you want to learn how the United States came to be, read Thomas Paine's writings.
I would recommend this to anyone. I would like to see every American read it & understand it.

This SHOULD BE a MUST READ in every high school in the WORLD not just the USA. These pamphlets written 233 years ago still hit the nail on the head. He had a huge impact on BOTH OUR Revolutionary War & The French Revolution.
This should be on the desk of EVERY Senator & Representative in Our Nation as well as every Country that is & wants a Democracy.
I read Common Sense way back in 1962 when I was a senior in high school and it left me with a lot of questions. Now 47 years later & seeing what has happened to OUR senators & representatives, I hope that we can find someone like this today!
A FABULOUS BOOK!
