"Grips you by the throat from beginning to end."—Cleveland Plain Dealer ALONE WITH HER NEW HUSBAND on a tiny Pacific atoll, a young woman, combing the beach, finds an odd aluminum container washed up out of the lagoon, and beside it on the sand something glitters: a gold tooth in a scorched human skull. The investigation that follows uncovers an extraordinarily complex and puzzling true-crime story. Only Vincent Bugliosi, who recounted his successful prosecution of mass murderer Charles Manson in the bestseller Helter Skelter, was able to draw together the hundreds of conflicting details of the mystery and reconstruct what really happened when four people found hell in a tropical paradise. And the Sea Will Tell reconstructs the events and subsequent trial of a riveting true murder mystery, and probes into the dark heart of a serpentine scenario of death. . And the Sea Will Tell spins a riveting story--a story that could have been the backbone for a classic novel by Herman Melville or Joseph Conrad. Two couples--one wealthy and married, the other an ex-con and his hippie girlfriend-- separately set sail for a remote South Pacific island, each hoping to play "Adam and Eve" in paradise. Instead of getting away from it all, they take it with them-- their pasts and prejudices, and the petty battles over status and material goods that arise from their different social classes. Only two people out of the original four live through the experience. One of them has the extraordinary good luck to be defended in court by master attorney Vincent Bugliosi (author of Helter Skelter). As the Los Angeles Times writes, "The book succeeds on all counts. The final pages are some of the most suspenseful in trial literature."

The 70's and 80's
Jennifer-hippie chick, druggie & flakey. Roy-criminal, druggie, mean and stupid.Their boat-not sea worthy & dangerous. Muff-a lady. Mac-an avid boats man. Their boat- a fabulous beauty. Palmyra-hell hole island.
Both of these women end up sailing to a place they did not want to be to keep the men in their lives happy.
They each thought the island to be deserted and when they got there it was like a convention. People and boats everywhere. Soon the others would leave and it was only Jennifer,Roy,Mac and Muff.
Several years later Jennifer and Roy arrive in Hawaii in Mac's boat.
WHERE ARE MAC AND MUFF ?
They are arrested and tried in Federal Court.
Vince Bugliosi says he is 99% sure that Jennifer did not kill them. As a defense attorney he says he will never take on a guilty client. Jennifer can not explain where Muff and Mac are.
Roy says that they are dead. But, their deaths were not murder.
SURE !!!!!!! ?????????
YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK. You will have a very hard time believing in Jennifer's innocence. But, I think you will end up feeling like she knew what Roy did but could not admit it to herself. She chose not to think about the evil he had done. This is a real true crime treat. This is a great adventure that went terribly wrong.
Oh by the way..Roy's name is not Roy and Jennifer's name is not Jennifer. This is another book where Vince B has changed the names. Roy is WESLEY G. WALKER and Jennifer is STEPHANIE STEARNS.

I happened upon a first edition hardcover in a thrift store for 50 cents. Looked mildly interesting. When I started reading it, I literally could not put this book down until I got to the end.
The second half of the book was my favorite due to all the technical legal issues that just engross me. Bugloisi makes a very convincing argument for his client and I would have been pursuaded to vote the way the jury did in this case.
I have since bought 2 more of his titles that are equally good. Bugliosi is in my opinion one of the greatest legal minds of our time and I am SO happy that I came across his work!
This book is definately worth reading if you enjoy crime drama. The fact that it is true adds to the intinsity of the book as well.
If you are ever accused of murder, this is the guy you want on your side of the courtroom!!

I found the first half or so of the book really entertaining, having spent a lot of time on small, deserted islands(dive spots), I could relate to an island where everything had reached its saturation point, the point where the island was sustaining the maximum life that it could sustain...everything living right on the edge. This part of the book had to be imagined, and I felt it was imagined quite well. Even the water was evil, baby sharks nipping at you just for wading around a little. The interior full of rats, crabs, etc. The second part of the book I believe was written by the co-author, and was too technical for me. All facts. I really like docu-drama, documentary only, not so much.

This is a wonderful book. Well written. Keeps your attention from the first page! Medium size about 300 pages. It's worth the read. Truth is stranger and infinitely more interesting than fiction. Read all of Vincent Buliosi's books. He's a wonderful writer. Don't miss this one. It's one of his best.
