A wicked comedy about the perils of making your dreams come true Quirky, clever, cubicle-bound Jennifer Johnson is desperate. Everyone around her is getting married, while she's still single and stuck writing ad copy about men's dress socks. Her life hits crisis level, launching her into a humiliating and painfully hilarious quest to find Prince Charming at any cost. This includes agonizing online dates, diet-clinic cults, drag-queen fights, and a debilitating addiction to Cinnabon icing. When she meets handsome, wealthy Brad Keller, she wonders if he's the answer to all her dreams, or is he just too good to be true? Darkly funny and outrageously honest, McElhatton's wit shines in this no-holds-barred cautionary tale about getting what you want—and how it can be the worst thing for you.

Really enjoyed it for the most part. Quite a few jaw-dropping, rolling-on-the-floor moments. But the build up to the end had me so anticipating something different that it failed to deliver. If you're a frustrated dater looking for "the one", sure, check it out for a few good laughs and feel someone else's pain for once.

this book was horrible. the story ending was heinous. the characterization was hollow and wishy-washy. i just finished the book and i'm literally sitting here with my mouth open. why would the author ever allow her main character, who was supposedly headstrong and sassy, to submit herself to such a degrading and soul-sucking way of life when she didn't need or want that life? it's bad enough that this situation happens in real-life, i didn't need to wasted my time reading 300 pages about it.

I loved the title and cover for this book, so I was very excited to read it. It does have some laugh-out-loud moments - and not many books can make me laugh like that. I appreciate the book's honesty of human failings and choices, instead of being a cute and forgettable fairy tale. However, my disappointment lies with the heroine herself. I just did not find her likable. I enjoy a sarcastic, sassy, modern hero, but Jennifer at times is mean, selfish and rude, especially to her family, and rather juvenile. As other reviewers noted, the ending is not as expected. But I think Jennifer gets exactly what she deserves. It's truthful, but not enjoyable reading.

I read chick-lit for light reading, that's fun and leaves me feeling good at the end. Pure escapism.
The book delivers on the first two and in fact, excels in a way many other books in this genre don't. Parts are laugh-out loud funny (especially the "lists"), the primary and side characters have enough quirks to make them memorable and the story moves along.
Without giving away the ending, it left me thinking "huh? it ends like this?". I even went back to make sure I didn't miss something. While it leaves room for a sequel, it also left me wanting the "girl learns from her mistakes and finds true happiness" ending I expected.
Not that a book has to have a happy ending to be good (Gone with the Wind is one of my favorite books). But in this case, it didn't work for me at all.
I'm giving this three stars because I did enjoy the book despite the disappointing ending.

Warning - if you read this book on the train with your iPod in your ears remember that even if you can't hear those around you they can hear you. . . I discovered this as I caught myself letting out a snort of laughter and then realized the rest of the train was quiet. . . oh well.
Jen is a thirtyish single woman looking for love in all the usual places but with scary results. She has the ubiquitous gay guy friend plus the guy colleague whom she always seems to look past. Her antics and the various positions she finds herself in will make you cringe and laugh out loud. The comments made by Christopher are some of the funniest I've read in ages. An ending that I didn't expect but which may lead onto another book with Ms Johnson. If you liked Bridget Jones, you'll love this as I found them very similar.
