First...full disclosure...I'm not a big country music fan. I do like some, but a lot of it
escapes me. But I do like the cross-over country sound and the more accessible country
artists. (My daughter is teaching me the ropes, so we'll see.) With that out of the way...
Well, I must admit I was not expecting much as the cover photos put me off a bit, but I was
pleasantly surprised. Holly Williams has the chops and the heart and she had me from the
git-go. Her vocals and the nice mix and instrumentation just work. The production values
are very good.
The CD opens with a very beautiful song "He's Making a Fool Out of You." It has all the
makings of a country standard. Time will tell.
"Keep the Change" is her hit single (or so they tell me) - it has a strong beat and is a
much more agressive than the other songs. But it was my least favorite song on the CD.
It's not bad, but I liked the softer, soulful "Let Her Go" much better.
"Three Days in Bed" really struck me as a particularly nice number. As did my favorite (so
far) "Alone" (hauntingly beautiful and with an angelic vocal accent in the chorus) and "Gone
with the Morning Sun." Included also is a very nice cover of "Birds" (Neil Young).
If you like contemporary country, then you'll like "Here With Me." Ms. Williams is an ace
song writer and a strong performer. This seems to me to be a very strong CD and her music
career is off to a fine start, in my opinion. I look forward to sharing it with my country
-music loving daughter and wife as they are sure to love it.
Recommended.

Holly Williams' music grabs hold and doesn't let go. Unlike most albums I purchase, I liked this one the first time I listened to it. It's mostly country, a bit rockin', with a whole lot of soul.
Williams' raspy, delightful songs concentrate on love lost and love found, and the more important things in life. "Mama" is about the unrepeatable love of a mother, shielding her children from the pain of a less-than-perfect marriage.
`I've seen mother's fill their children's hearts with hate/But you knew better than to drag me down with you/You let me love my daddy just the same.' It's powerful stuff.
"Keep the Change" is a rocking tune. I enjoyed the mandolin on "Mama" and the harmonica on "I Hold On."
Her "A Love I Think Will Last" duet with Chris Janson reminded me of a classic Johnny Cash and June Carter duet.
My only disappointment with the album were the lyrics for "Three Days in Bed." Why strive for the gutter when you can shoot for the clouds?
Here's hoping that Williams' easy-on-the-ears music continues for years to come.

I approach new music as naively as possible. I try not to learn too much about the artist until after I've listened so as not to influence my appreciation of the music. So as I first listened to Holly Williams CD, Here With Me, I had no inkling of her musical heritage.
I totally enjoyed this CD. First off, the production quality is excellent as is the musicianship. Lyrically, Holly has written or co-written most of the songs on the CD and I think the end result is great. She definitely has some talent as a songwriter.
Vocally, I would say that Holly's vocals remind me vaguely of Mary Chapin Carpenter. I like her vocals a lot and the CD provides a good mix of tempos and style though I must say the CD leans way more towards country than pop.
A thoroughly enjoyable CD for me. I liked it and will look forward to her next release.
