Sara evans is one america's major stars on the country music scene. After 5 albums it's time for a greatest hits! All the favourites are there plus 4 new tracks. The first single "as if" is at radio now.

Growing up in her family band in Missouri, Sara Evans learned two valuable lessons: always imbue a song with palpable emotion, and quickly change directions if a number tends to flop. Both rules have kept Evans in the big leagues the last 10 years. If she’s moved more squarely into the mainstream during this time, her adenoidal delivery and "Show Me State"-twang keeps her down on the farm, and she has not forgotten where she came from, as the irresistible hoedown head-bobber "Suds in the Bucket" proves. Evans has a tendency to wear rose-colored glasses when looking to the romantic horizon ("No Place That Far"), but it works in her favor on "As If," a bouncy, rockin’ hormone rush in the advent of new love. The first of four new songs, "As If" is a perfect "starting over" tune in the wake of her messy 2006 divorce. "Love You With All My Heart" and "Pray for You" echo the new-beginnings theme. If "Some Things Never Change" seems a tired nod to routine family values, Evans apparently remembers a third lesson from her family-band days: Playing it safe will never get you kicked off the stage. --Alanna Nash

Great Package
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
The most pleasurable aspects of Sara Evans's 2007 greatest hits package are following the progression of her career and enjoying the amazing quality of the four new songs included here. This was a risky proposition, and many other artists have included mediocre filler material in their "greatest" or "best of" packages, but Sara's new material compares favorably with the hits of her entire catalog. The listener can enjoy the traditional material from Sara's early years, then her transition toward pop/country with Born To Fly material, and the mix of styles from every release since then, including this one. Neither fans of hardcore "twang" country, nor fans of "crossover" country should complain since Sara carries both styles off flawlessly.

Here are just a few words about the new songs. I love "As If," a bouncy pop/country tune that really gets it right. This was the obvious single and hit, its upbeat, happy, and shows off her big voice. "Love You With All My Heart" features excellent vocals, very traditional Sara. "Pray For You" is a nod to Doris Day, a mother's plea. "Some Things Never Change" champions hometown and traditional values; I consider this particularly appropriate considering the recent changes in Sara's life. I heard Sara say that choosing this material was unusually challenging since all the new songs must be, in essence, "greatest hits." These make the grade.

These songs are so well-chosen that this record is a must-have for old and new fans alike. Sure, there are always omissions, depending on which songs you like, but you've got to stop somewhere. I'd actually recommend buying her entire catalog.

A pleasant surprise - great CD
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
I only knew a few Sara Evans songs, so I was pleasantly surprised by how good she is, and how good this Greatest Hits collection is. I'd recommend this CD to any lover of country music.

Good country music

I wasn't familiar with her music before, but really like it. All in all it's a good CD and worth the money.

A better-than-average compilation
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
I think that a good Greatest Hits package should have more than the standard 10 or 12 tracks, especially when new material is included. In that respect, this collection from Sara Evans delivers - there are 10 of her biggest hits along with four new tracks. Although some of my favorites are not here -- "Three Chords And The Truth" and "Backseat of A Greyhound Bus" -- are the first that come time mind, they didn't chart high enough to justify inclusion in a Greatest Hits collection.

Which brings me to my next point -- I didn't actually buy this CD. I'm a big fan of Sara's so I already owned all of her previous CDs. A few years ago, I would have purchased this one to get the new tracks, or perhaps to even get all the hits on a single disk. In this day and age, that isn't necessary, which is something that those of you who are complaining about this song or that song not being included should bear in mind. If you're a diehard fan like me, download the new tracks for 99 cents apiece from Amazon, and burn them to a disk along with whatever other tracks you feel should be included. If you're a more casual fan, buy the Greatest Hits CD or download it, and then download any other indivdiual tracks you want from other albums, and make your own compilation. We're not at the mercy of the record companies anymore, folks.

But I digress. I actually made a playlist to match RCA's choice of tracks and have been playing it non-stop. Sara Evans is one of the few bright spots among today's country stars, and this solid collection of hits is sure to please any of her fans.
