I found this CD to be just average. Sure the subject of a openly gay pop star is great in my opinion, but this is not a great CD. The songs are all very amateur sounding and cheaply recorded. The beats are mild, the lyrics are on and off, sometimes being sexy and sometimes being just plain silly, and his voice is just not all that great. Just because this CD is about being gay openly does not mean it's a great CD. The recordings themselves are very poorly made and sound almost like they did it for fun in someones house one saterday afternoon. I'm not saying the CD is horrible, but it's not great either. The only song worth listening too is "you turn it on".

First off, this album is constantly compared to George Michael, and I feel exactly the same. Picture a younger, more contemporary George with some of his hits like "Too Funky" and "Fastlove", mix in a little rock, and you have Jim. His slow songs ("Hold On" and "One More Time")are touching and meaningful, not so overproduced you can't focus on his soothing voice. A guitar-laced rock influence give a powerful thrust to "Welcome to Hollywood" and "Outside". The latter of these two deals with gaybashing and a big F-you to the haters who made his, and so many of the young lives of us gay boys tough. The dance beats crank up on all the other tracks. One track in particular, "So Deep" is one of the most sexually provocative songs I've ever heard in my life. This actually made me so hot the first time I heard it, I had to quickly switch to the next track because I was driving in the car.
His voice is very mature. The lyrics are a mix of feel-good fancy, sexual freedom, and real-life substance. The procuction values are engaging, but not overpowering. Jim is a real artist who deserves a committed listen from all of us.

I really liked this album. A few songs had to grow on me, but most of them were just awesome from the start. Great album from a talented guy!

I bought this cd with a bit of trepidation. I am SOO glad I got it though. Hold On and Alive are romantic, while some of the others are more "danceable." Forbidden Love and So Deep are, well, NOT something you would expect to hear on am/fm radio, but both are also great. Welcome to Hollywood seems to be more of the challenges of trying to make it in "tinsle town." My favourite lyric from "..Hollywood" is: " You better make an impression, or start packing your things."
Overall, I give this cd very high marks.
