| A perfect 'man purse' for ADD'ers |

I don't have a laptop. I bought this as my white collar 'man purse,' for hauling papers & magazines, my Palm, a small external HD, my iPod, etc.
After two months usage, I'm quite happy with the Vanguard's quality, styling and durability. It's attractive, rock solid and durable. Airport security was fine with just x-raying it, probably because the sides are ABS plastic. An all-aluminum case might have required hand inspection.
I have ADD and anything that is out of sight is also out of mind. Courier bags and multi-compartment backpacks look great, but organizationally they're black holes. I need to SEE everything and keep it neatly organized so that my brain can stay organized. When you pop open a briefcase, everything's there in plain sight, instantly accessible. Snap it closed and run with it. It's great.
The 4" version is perfect for my regular needs, but the roomier 5" version would probably be better for frequent travel. When I get a laptop, I'm sure the 5" version would be more suitable.
The shoulder strap seals the deal by freeing-up both hands when I'm on the move. The case fits comfortably under one arm and I often use it to push open stubborn doors. The Kevlar inserts are also great for stopping the occasional stray bullet! ;-)
Note: the ABS side panels are embossed with a tiny diamond pattern that can scuff or scar with repeated impacts (like pushing doors open) but I don't mind these tiny marks. IMO, they're a patina that adds a certain world-weary toughness.
Prices for these cases can vary widely, so shop around. Amazon was $2 more than the very cheapest I could find, so it was a no-brainer to choose them because of their no-problems track record over the years.

This was perfect for what I was looking for. Tight fit for my 17" laptop and extra room when I take my 12" laptop instead. Study case and looks good too.

I wanted a noebook case that not only looked cool, but also gave my laptop security, and a higher level of physical protection. This case does both of those. It has a sleek and intuitive design that appeals to my sense of style, and the inner compartment and area for accessories (ie CD/DVD slots, pen holders, sleeve for documents) is sufficient for basic travel.
If you have a lot of accessories, such as, a big bulky mouse, extra power cables, a lot of cd/dvd's, a lot of papers; do not purchase. I have a mid grade logitech laser mouse and it barely fits in with the power adapter, cd's, pens, and 30-40 pages of documents i Usually carry.
Also if you need expandable room and a lot of space do not purchase. You have an area that will not expand, unlike some other bags that you can keep cramming stuff into. And finally, this Laptop case is for my 17" computer which is already heavy. This case makes it a lot heavier. So, if you cant handle a lot of weight, travel on air planes a lot, then I wouldnt suggest it. Furthermore, I get a lot of weird looks in an airport when I am carrying this case.

The case was just what I was looking for! There was a slight discrepancy from the description in the product I ordered (it said it was the 5" depth model) but in review, the model number was the 4" model so I got what I paid for. Thanks again.
