Hilarious and touching.
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
Rita Markham's mother, Judy, always told her to never settle down with a cowboy. If a cowboy's life is not cut short, he is crippled early from the multiple injuries received from rodeos. Rita took those words to heart. Always good with math, Rita's MBA takes her to Seattle and she is working on her actuary certification. When considering husband material, Rita looks for someone with the same goals and interests instead of love. This is how she ends up with David Parr as her fiancé.

When her mother is due knee surgery, Rita goes home for several weeks to care for her. The last thing Rita expects is to still feel anything for Brody. She had a huge crush on Brody as a teenager and had even offered herself to him, only to be turned down. Rita never understood exactly why Brody had turned her down since he went through women like tissue paper. Still, Rita cannot deny that the man still makes her knees go weak with his cocky grin. Good thing she has David.

Brody Alexander loves his ranch in Owyhee County, Idaho. When he is not there, he is busy doing his favorite things in life, bullfighting and rodeo clowning. He cared too much for Rita in the past to allow her to give herself to him. Whether he would have encouraged it now or not is a moot point since she has a fiancé. Unknown to those outside his family, Brody's real name is Broderick Pettybottham the Fourth. Broderick owns seventy-five percent of a Fortune 500 corporation, but it is his sister, Caroline, and his mother that manages the corporate operations. His sister and mother have been trying to bring Broderick back to the corporation headquarters in Texas to resume his duties as CEO for quite some time. His interest in Rita just may be a way for them to succeed too.

Socrates is a mule. His adopted human is named Brody. Unlike humans, mules still exercise common sense. And Socrates has decided it is time for Brody and Rita to admit their feelings for each other, get married, and have some small Brodiettes. Aided and abetted by Guinevere, a descented skunk, and Perseus, an Australian Shepherd dog, Socrates begins making plans to bring the two humans to their senses before it's too late.

***** A light-hearted and hilarious romp into a world of rodeo clowns, family values, and romance, this story kept my attention glued tighter than a cowboy to the back of a crippled bucking bronco. Whether you enjoy fast romances with big business or the slower pace of a laid back western, this tale is for you. The menagerie kept me chuckling with delight throughout the entire story. Socrates is the main one in the animal spotlight, but the skunk just cannot help but outshine the mule often and the dog is a delight to behold. All-in-all, a perfect book to cuddle up with during the colder months of the year. Excellent! *****

A romantic mule?
Customer Rating: 5 out of 5
Brody and Rita were a terrific pair. Rita is determined to make this a short visit to her home town, but she didn't count on the memories of her non-existent past with Brody following her into the present. Brody doesn't want anyone to know his true identity. All he really wants is to clown around with the bulls. And the other thing he wants is Rita.

There's quite the animal menagerie, from Socrates the mule to his cohorts in crime, or rather his cohorts in matchmaking. Down Home Ever Lovin' Mule Blues is another funny, clever, romantic, inventive book by Jacquie Rogers. I love the way she mixes the human story with a fantasy. Who else can write about faeries and mules and make the reader yearn to be right in the middle of the story? I can guarantee that anyone who reads a Jacquie Rogers book will come away smiling and happier than when she began. Oh, and the romance is first rate too!

Loved it!

Socrates the mule, yes one of those hairy donkey creatures has a plan for his human Brody Alexander. He wants to see his human happy, I guess you could say that Socrates, Guinevere the skunk, Perseus and Beauty, the ever watchful companions are Brody's fairy god watchers. The will do everything in their power to bring together not just one couple but two.

Rita Markum a retired barrel rider, now corporate city girl has returned to Grasmere, Idaho to care for her mother after surgery. She didn't expect to lay eyes on the man she fell in love with ten years ago, and have the feelings rush back at her. She also had to keep an eye on the old busted up cowboy Luke that seemed to have more than friendly feelings for Rita's mother Judy. After Rita approached Brody all those years ago, laying her body on the line for him only to get rejected, her heart still did that pitter patter beat when Brody was around.

Brody Alexander had a secret, he is one of the richest men around and is the CEO of a company that Rita desperately needed approval from. Everyone knew Brody as the bullfighter/rodeo clown, he loved the thrill and could not imagine being in a stuffy business suit and office for the rest of his life. But if it came down to it to keep Rita, he'd sacrifice anything. But hopefully it wouldn't come to that, maybe Rita would come back to her roots and settle for the bullfighter that stole her heart all those years ago... she has no idea she's had his heart for just as long. But stubborn is as stubborn does, and no I'm not talking about Socrates, I'm talking about LOVE.

Jacquie Rogers, author of Faery Special Romances has really outdone herself with Down Home Ever Lovin' Mule Blues. I could not help laughing at Socrates' plans and antics, I was love struck by the way her characters truly wanted each other, and I admit that I loved this 10 fold more than Faery Special Romances. It was so touching, heartwarming, and very well written that I could not put it down, I read the book in two days. Jacquie Rogers has a way of writing fantasy romances that puts the city girl with the cowboy in a most spectacular way with this novel. 5 Hearts

What a hoot!
Jacquie Rogers has an original and delightful imagination. This romance is completely different from anything you've ever read before. You'll find yourself laughing out loud at the
match- making animals. Rogers has created interesting characters and a hero and heroine you'll adore. Brody made my heart race, but I have always been partial to cowboys.
When you want to curl up with a good read, pick this book. From the first page you'll be hooked, and there is no way you'll be able to put it down.

Another awesome read

Ms. Rogers has once again captivated me with her imagination and prose.

I received an ARC, and had a very hard time putting it down. I love the setting in the story, my home state of Idaho . Yes Grasmere is a real town. Brody, is a rodeo clown who is hiding from the corporate world of Pettybottham Enterprises. Enter the sophisticated, beautiful, and intriguing Rita Markham, an up and coming actuary for his family's business. This tough bullfighter's knees go weak when he goes to rescue the Markham 's apples from a stubborn mule named Socrates, and sees the beautiful Rita, When did she grow up?

I cannot wait to read more from Ms. Rogers. The book world has its newest star.
