  • Things aren't pretty for Emerson Watts.

Em was sure there couldn't be anything worse than being a brainiac the body of a teenaged supermodel.

But it turned out she was wrong. Because that supermodel could turn out to have a mother who's gone mysteriously missing, a brother who's shown up on her doorstep demanding answers, a former best friend who's intent on destroying Stark Enterprises to avenge the death of his lost love, and a British heartthrob who's written a song about her that's topping the charts.

How can Em balance all that with school, runway shows, and weekend jaunts to St. Johns - especially when she's got ex-boyfriends crawling out of the woodwork who want more than just a photo op; a sister who is headed to the high school cheerleading championships; a company she represents that seems to be turning to the dark side...

Not to mention trying to convince the love of her life that models aren't really airheads after all...especially one model in particular.

But then, nobody said it was going to be easy being Nikki.

Praise for Airhead and Meg Cabot

"Cabot…dishes up all the story ingredients her fans have come to know and love - romance, humor, believable teen dialogue and even a fantastical twist…Pure fun, this first series installment will leave readers clamoring for the next." - Publisher's Weekly

"The text's abundant references to current pop culture and Em's witty character keep this read both grounded and fun." - Kirkus Reviews

It's hard for me to say something about a Meg Cabot book other than "It's Meg Cabot; need I say more?" And really, I feel like saying that again. The fact is, I love Meg Cabot, and I love everything I've ever read that she's written, even if some are better than others. Airhead was definitely better than others, and I was worried that Being Nikking wouldn't be able to live up to the awesomeness of Airhead. It definitely did, perhaps even surpassing it. It's creative, it's original, it's a love story, and it's a mystery. Cabot's continuation of the life of Emerson Watts and supermodel Nikki does not disappoint. Em is a fun, witty, likable character, and it's impossible not to laugh (or cringe, depending) at the situations that she regularly finds herself in. I couldn't put this book down as I followed Em on her exciting and dangerous voyage towards truth, and by the end I was practically falling off ly seat (or rather out of my bed), mouth agape, wondering how I will EVER manage to wait until 2010 to read the next book in the series.
Who Should Read It?Really, anyone into teen fiction; anyone that likes books with girls and boys and love and excitement and pseudo mystery.

The story of a runway model's unusual life

Em is an intellectual in the body of a supermodel and she can't imagine anything worse - until her mother goes missing, her brother demands answers, and a British heartthrob writes a winning song about her. Add the complexities of school and you have a winning, complex story of a beautiful, intelligent girl perfect for young adult leisure reading audiences, and deserving of ongoing recommendation in Meg Cabot's BEING NIKKI.

In spite of it all...I really do think...I love you

I will be the first to admit, I was a little harsh with my review of Airhead, so a few of you might be surprised to see I am reading this book. But a friend of mine (hi, Angie!) promised it was a great book, so I went ahead and picked it up.

Emerson Watts is settling into both Nikki Howards's body and her life. She can finally get through a photo shoot to get "the one" photo, even if she ends up looking like a drown rat half the time. She also has Nikki's fierce catwalk down, as long as someone warns her before she steps off the end of the runway and falls to her doom. And miraculously, she's passing her junior year in high school despite her agents best efforts to keep her from attending class with a never-ending promotional schedule.

That is, until Nikki's long-lost brother Steven shows up looking for his missing mother, Em's little sister Frida insists on attending Lulu's huge holiday bash, the over-night hottie Christopher has turned into an uber-villain intent of taking down Stark Enterprises and Nikki's ex-boyfriends keep appearing out of the woodwork with kissing (and more) on their minds.

But Em can get through this. She can find Nikki's mom, keep Frida from turning into the Walking Dead, make Christopher notice her and keep her tongue out of other boys' mouths. After all, she has a great family, supportive friends, moderate intelligence and now a killer body to match. Right? Right...

And as ridiculous as that all sounds, it has been really fun to read. While I'm still not a fan of the premise--it's a stretch even for Meg Cabot--the secondary characters are really winning me over. Em/Nikki still annoys me a little, but Lulu, Freda, Steven, Christopher and a never-ending stream of beautiful boys and *itchy models make for a colorful cast of characters. Plus, this book really is different. With sci-fi elements and a stream-of-consciousness style, Cabot has created something totally different that will make you laugh, keep you guessing and leave you wanting more in the end.

    Who's That Girl?

Being Nikki is the 2nd book in the 'Airhead' series by Meg Cabot. This literally jumps into where 'Airhead' left off and we find our young and famous teen model Nikki Howard aka Emerson Watts clinging to a cliff for a photo shoot. After having to trick her way back to New York City - there is yet another surprise awaiting for her when she returns. Is it Em's old best friend/long time crush Christopher? Or another mysterious stranger from Nikki's past? Either way our poor Em has to deal with a lot more twists and turns just as soon as she thought she was settling down in Nikki's role. As Emerson's role in the day in the life of Nikki Howard continues will she ever be able to break free?

I had a little bit more trouble jumping into the 2nd book, unlike the first book. (To be fair) I think that sometimes happens with sequals. However, I was still able to read this in about a day or two. It is a really fun and enjoyable sci-fi read for today's teens. Full of twists and turns that'll keep you guessing through to the end. We continue to see Em struggle in her new life as Nikki and almost having no where to turn or anyone to lean on - trying to see which people are friends or foes. She also continues juggle between trying to be herself and not turning into Nikki. The story does get a bit frusterating to keep wondering if Em will ever get at least a big break; especially, in this sequal. I can only hope that in the end Emerson can eventually be herself, but I do see her as a tough and strong individual who is facing something that hopefully no one would ever have to face including an adult!

I highly recommend Being Nikki as well as the first book Airhead. While the sequal may not be as fresh and unique as the first one, it's still a rather fun read. I like to call this series a 'Twilight Zone' episode for today's teens! I literally can not wait for the next installment Runaway!

Fast Read but...makes you wait for yet another ending

You can gobble this up easily (especially after Airhead). i would recommend this book - but like the first, you are waiting for "the rest".
